PAREO
Rui Suzuki's paintings, often large-format watercolours on canvas, are the result of dynamic processes that are constantly repositioned in parts over time.
Due to the fluid material, her artistic practice is characterised by her conceptual idea of the picture and the constant reaction to it during the painting process. This moment of dialogue becomes the actual principle of Rui Suzuki's works. Lines and spots are constantly seeking their own paths, forming themselves anew and requiring the artist to constantly react and focus on the picture.
As a result, Rui Suzuki's current paintings are characterised by an all-over structure that can be recapitulated line by line, a structure that oscillates between rigour and openness.
The physical presence of the canvas goes hand in hand with an almost calligraphic presence of the artist and thus corresponds to a concept of body and mind that in its unity corresponds to her ideas.
Rui Suzuki was born in 1994 in Shizuoka, Japan. She studied textile design at Tama Art University in Tokyo from 2012-2016 and at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Prof Tomma Abts from 2019-2024, graduating as a master student.
In 2022 she received the Deutschlandstipendium at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf.

My grandma used to say, “Strike while the iron is hot and apply it
to the wound, then everything will go well”.
She sat with her hips stretched out, even when her eyes were muffled
and her ears were blurry.

I asked him by e–mail, if I can get his address to write him a letter. I asked -how’s it
going?-. But on the letter I wrote again -how’s it going?-. I don’t know why.,

I got a message. – I can’t come today – I got angry.
But she wrote me why she can’t come and the air between us was getting softer.

Bright arrows of sensation shoot on either side. I am covered with warm flesh.
My dry crannies are wetted; my cold body is warmed; it is sluiced and gleaming.
Water descends and sheets me like an eel. Now hot towels envelop me,
and their roughness, as I rub my back, makes my blood purr.,

I am sitting in the hospital and waiting my turn. I heard a voice
from the other side of the door say, „It‘s your turn.“.
A man sitting next to me gets up and goes to get some water.
I get up and walk after the nurse. I am supposed to take a blood test.
